I am the new Family Artist in Residence at the Camden Arts Centre, which means that from 22 April to 24 June I will be running the Family Takeover Sessions on Sundays. The Takeover Sessions are drop-in sessions in the Drawing Studio providing free, creative and fun activities that take inspiration from the two current exhibitions Sadie Benning: Sleep Rock and Ian White: Any frame is a thrown voice. I have planned the sessions to enable you and your family an accessible entry point to understanding these artists’ respective work, their shared themes and the points of connection to my own artistic work. We will creatively explore transformation, framing and identity by working with a range of materials and processes in order to make sets and props, stage performances and create new alter-egos. (Family Takeover is suitable for children of all ages and materials are provided free of charge.)
Also, if you visit the gallery any day of the week you can pick up the Family Activity Box, which is available in the exhibition galleries for the duration of the two exhibitions. As the Family Artist in Residence I have arrived at an activity called “Reframe, Reflect and React” and the instructions and materials for it are provided in the box to enable you and your family to playfully explore the shows, extend your visit and change your perspective.
